Oil-Injected Air Compressor Lubricants

Oil-injected air compressors are the most widely used compressed air technology in industrial and commercial operations — and the lubricant plays a central role in sealing, cooling and protecting the compression element throughout its service life. NEXT Lubricants supplies mineral and synthetic compressor lubricants for rotary screw, rotary vane and reciprocating piston air compressors across general industrial, manufacturing and process applications.

Knowledge

Lubrication Considerations for Oil-Injected Air Compressors

In oil-injected compression, the lubricant is continuously injected into the compression chamber, exposed to compressed air, heat and moisture before being separated and recirculated. Lubricant stability, separator performance and service interval are closely linked — and base oil type and additive chemistry determine how well the lubricant holds up under continuous recirculation at operating temperature.

Thermal & Oxidative Stability

Lubricant injected into the compression chamber is exposed to elevated discharge temperatures and compressed air continuously — thermal and oxidative stability determine how quickly the lubricant degrades and how long it can remain in service before requiring replacement.

Water Separation & Moisture Handling

Compressed air contains moisture that condenses in the oil separator and sump — lubricants must separate from water readily to prevent emulsification, corrosion and lubricant degradation in the separator and recirculation circuit.

Wear Protection & Deposit Control

Bearing, rotor and separator wear protection and resistance to varnish and deposit formation in the compression element and separator are important for compressor reliability and maintaining oil separator efficiency over the lubricant service interval.
